The APS Library "not-Books" section.

This section of the site lists the contents of those library which are not books: they are journals of various societies. For each, the APS Editor has made a selection of those articles which seem to him most relevant. The 'notBooks' are numbered in a different series from the books. The German words have often been retained, because if the topic interests you you'll know it, and if ignorantly mistranslated you'll miss it! Many of the ArGe publications have such a wide range of small items that if it's your pet area you should join the ArGe - and then borrow and study the complete run. The numerous Festschrifts they produce are listed with the regular journals. General Warning: many of these publications have nasty staples.

1000Blackprints - We have 2 boxes of neatly-filed blackprints from 3.12.1949 on. Most have some text in English. To borrow one, specify the stamp and its issue date, not its catalogue number.
1001Austria - there is a separate index for this.
1002ASCGB Bulletin, first and second series.
1003Bulletin of the (former) Austrian Philatelic Society of New York. This is indexed as Library book number 6.
1004Stamps Of Hungary, issued by the Hungarian Philatelic Society of Great Britain. Complete run from issue 2/14 plus a few others of vol. 2. There are very few entries relevant to purely Austrian philately. Also: 'Stamp Collecting' for 29/11/1919 (the 'Hungarian issue'); a booklet on Perfins, undated but post-WWII; Air Mail Postmarks (1974) & supplements; and an Index dated 1995.
1005Germania - the Germany & Colonies Philatelic Society. Also their Third Reich Study Group.
1006Die Briefmarke - This is the journal of the Verband Österreichischer Philatelistinvereine (VÖPh), now produced along with the Austrian Post Office. Each issue typically includes dates of exhibitions etc in Austria, Switzerland & Germany; illustrated tabulation of forthcoming special cancels; new Austrian stamp issues, with illustration if available; European philatelic snippets; news of U.N. (Wien) issues; Austrian philatelic personalities; book reviews; Questions & Answers; postage due discoveries; correspondence; new European stamp issues; Swiss & Germany reports; closures and (rarely) openings of post offices, TPOs, & postablages; philatelic gossip etc.
1007Yugopost - the Yugoslav Study Group. We have a complete run of issues 1-56
1008Südost-Philatelie - a complete run of the magazine of Arbeitsgemeinschaft Jugoslawien und Nachfolgestaaten. Its current title is 'Südost Philatelie'. I have omitted independent post-WWI Yugoslavia and its successors; WWII occupations of wherever by whoever; Serbia before Austria invaded it; Serbian government in exile; and the frequent reminders of the need for more members.
1009Rundbrief of the ARGE Österr. Feld- und Zensurpost 1914-1918. I routinely suggest that those interested in Fieldpost should join the ArGe, and I add to that that they should then borrow the entire journal and read it! Most issues have ArGe news & gossip, questions and some answers, etc.
A good place to start for those contemplating this collecting area (provided you can read German) is their 1997 Festschrift KuK Feld & Zensurpost: ein Sammlegebeit stellt sich vor in which 24 articles (mostly short), many with spectacular colour illustrations, show off aspects of the topic.
1010Rundbrief of the ARGE Österreich e.V.. We have an almost-complete run from issue 1 (of 1988). Most have Society news, reviews of books and new issues, numerous 1-page articles, and (in most of issues 6-28) a 'Kleinwalsertal Report'.
